Dior now sells two fragrances called Rouge Trafalgar, and the most common question is whether the 2024 Esprit de Parfum is simply a stronger version of the original. It is not. Here is what each one is, how they differ, what they cost in the UK, and who should buy which.
What Les Esprits de Parfum are
Les Esprits de Parfum is a higher-concentration line Dior introduced within La Collection Privée in 2024. Rather than producing the same formulas at a higher strength, Francis Kurkdjian, Dior's perfume creative director, revisited existing fragrances to bring out more intense facets.
That is why the Esprit smells different from the original. It was designed to. And importantly, the original eau de parfum remains on sale, so you can choose between them.
What is different about Rouge Trafalgar Esprit de Parfum
Dior describes the Esprit as deeper and more incisive, built around a strong pink pepper note and essences of Turkish and Bulgarian rose, with cherry and red fruits.
Compare that with the original eau de parfum, which Dior lists as raspberry, strawberry and mandarin, blackcurrant and violet leaf, then woody notes, patchouli and musk. The original is fruit-led and bright. The Esprit moves the centre of gravity towards spice and rose, so the fruit becomes a component rather than the headline.

Rouge Trafalgar Esprit de Parfum price and sizes in the UK
The Esprit de Parfum is the most expensive way to wear Rouge Trafalgar: £380 for an 80ml bottle at Dior UK. The original eau de parfum starts at £175 for 50ml, with larger bottles available. Per millilitre, the Esprit costs roughly a third more than the eau de parfum, which reflects its higher concentration.
If you want to carry it with you, Dior also sells La Collection Privée travel spray refills, and Rouge Trafalgar is one of the scents offered in that format.
Where to buy Rouge Trafalgar Esprit de Parfum
La Collection Privée is sold through Dior itself: dior.com and Dior boutiques and beauty counters. Buying there is the only way to be sure the bottle is genuine.
Be careful with much cheaper listings on marketplaces and auction sites. A Dior Collection Privée bottle at a fraction of the boutique price is very often a counterfeit or a tester sold without a box.
