Rouge Trafalgar is gone. Dior pulled the 2020 eau de parfum from La Collection Privée, and the only bottles left are old stock and resale at two to four times what they used to cost. So the real question is not "which dupe is best" but "what can I wear instead that gets me the same feeling".
Here is an honest answer, including where ours falls short.
What made the original worth chasing
Cherry fragrances are usually built one way: sweet, syrupy, closer to a glacé cherry on a cake than to fruit. Rouge Trafalgar refused that.
It opened tart and almost sharp, with blackcurrant and pink pepper cutting the sweetness before it could settle. Underneath sat Turkish rose, iris and patchouli, which pulled the whole thing away from fruit and towards something darker and more adult. The technical description is a fruity chypre. The practical description is a cherry scent that never once smelled like a sweet shop.
That tension is what to look for in a replacement. Plenty of fragrances smell of cherry. Almost none of them smell tart.
How we ranked these
We sell one of the fragrances on this list, so you should know what the ranking rests on before you read it.
These are ordered on four things we can state plainly: how the published note profile compares with the original's, oil concentration, what you actually pay in the UK including delivery, and whether you can send it back if you dislike it.
What this ranking is not is a blind sensory test. Scoring how closely something smells means a controlled side-by-side against an authenticated bottle of a discontinued fragrance, on several wearers, across a full day. We have not done that. Anyone quoting you a precise similarity percentage on a scent that left the market years ago should be asked how they arrived at it.

1. Elixir De Myra, ours

Our rebuild of the 2020 character: tart cherry and pink pepper at the top, Turkish rose through the heart, and enough patchouli underneath to stop it turning sweet. It was built specifically to answer the discontinuation rather than as a general cherry fragrance, and it stays in production, so you are not solving this problem again in two years.
Where it falls short: it is our interpretation, not Dior's formula, and no recreation is a molecular copy. If your attachment is to the exact bottle you owned, nothing on this list will satisfy that, ours included. 2. Kilian Woman in Gold
Roughly £124 to £225 for 50ml depending on retailer.
The closest thing in niche perfumery to the space Rouge Trafalgar occupied: fruit and florals built with real weight underneath rather than sugar. It is genuinely excellent, and genuinely not the same fragrance. Woman in Gold runs warmer and more honeyed where Rouge Trafalgar ran tart and sharp.
Worth it if you loved the original's richness more than its bite and the budget is there. UK prices vary widely between retailers, so compare before buying.
3. Rouge Trafalgar Esprit de Parfum, by Dior
Current, in production, and considerably more expensive.
Dior brought the name back in 2024 in a higher-concentration tier. It is the only option here with the actual name on the bottle, which for some people settles it.
But it is not a reissue. Francis Kurkdjian revisited the composition to push its most intense facets forward: more pink pepper, and a rose rebuilt using Turkish and Bulgarian rose essences. The result is deeper and more serious than the 2020 version. If what you loved was the juicy opening, you may buy it and still feel something is missing. We have written a full comparison of the two.
4. The Arabian house versions
Zimaya Hawwa Red, Khadlaj Ria, Atralia Rouge Orchard.
All three are cherry-forward fruity florals, usually sold at 100ml, and all three are cheap per millilitre. Ria opens on mandarin, raspberry, cherry and strawberry. Rouge Orchard runs raspberry and pink pepper into rose and cherry, which is the closest structural echo of the original on this list after ours.
Two honest cautions rather than a dismissal. First, they are generally sweeter and more straightforwardly fruity than Rouge Trafalgar was, so you get the cherry without much of the tartness that made it interesting. Second, and more practically, they reach the UK through many small importers rather than one distributor. There is no consistent UK price, stock comes and goes, and in most cases there are no UK-based returns if it does not suit you. Check where the seller is based before ordering.

Whatever you pick, sample before committing to a full bottle. Cherry is one of the most divisive notes in perfumery, and skin chemistry moves it around more than most. A few pounds spent testing beats thirty pounds spent regretting.
Frequently asked questions
Is there an exact Rouge Trafalgar dupe?
No, and be sceptical of anyone who says otherwise. The formula is not public, the fragrance is out of production, and nobody outside Dior can copy it exactly. What is achievable is a faithful rebuild of the character, which is what we set out to make.
Why do inspired-by fragrances cost so much less?
Most of a designer price is not the liquid. It is advertising, celebrity campaigns, retail space, packaging and margin. Remove those and a comparable concentration of perfume oil costs a fraction. Ours sit at 30% oil, which is higher than most designer eaux de parfum.
Is selling an inspired-by fragrance legal?
Yes. Fragrance formulas are not protected by copyright, which is why the category exists at all. What is not legal is copying a brand's name, bottle or packaging, which is why our bottles look like ours and are sold under our own name.
Will Dior reissue the original?
Nobody outside Dior knows, and the house does not comment on discontinued lines. Given the Esprit de Parfum now carries the name, a return of the 2020 formula looks unlikely.
